What is Wicca |
1. How do you define Wicca? I cannot define Wicca, the simple definition which is always quoted is 'it is an earth-based religion' however it is much more than that. Wicca means different things to different people. It is an ever-evolving religion, a reverence for the universal life force, the acknowledgement of the Divine in all things. It is a personal religion and therefore it can be defined by how each person incorporates it into their own life. This means there will be many definitions of Wicca. However, Wicca is to me all these things and more it is a balance of the feminine and masculine and without one you cannot have the other. Everything in the universe is about balance and everything, no matter what you wish to call it, has a ying and a yang. It is about maintaining a connection with the divine. 2. What role do you play within Wicca? If I play any role at all within Wicca it would be as a guide to help others understand and dispel the myths promulgated by those who don't understand exactly what Wicca is or can be. 3. What are your practices that are Wiccan in nature? Amongst other things, I practice rites and rituals which mark the natural cycles of the moon and the sun, rituals for raising healing energy for the earth, for peace and for those in need of healing. Nature is the universal life force and is embodied in everything. 4. What value does Wicca offer to you? Wicca is a peaceful way of life, by that I mean Wiccans are not confrontational, we seek to be in harmony with the natural cycles of the universe, what could be better than that. For me Wicca acknowledges the divinity in all things and teaches us to be responsible for our own actions and life choices. The Wicca I follow is an extension of what I was taught by my father who was a student of metaphysics, he sadly died at a fairly young age so was unable to continue passing on his knowledge to me. I find that wicca for me is a superior way of looking at existence and our purpose in life. It offers me a clearer understanding of existence both before birth, during life, and after death, and it is a wonderful way of living in harmony with all things. 5. What value does Wicca offer the world? Wicca as a spiritual path offers the world a way of honouring the earth and it's flora and fauna. Wicca promotes peace and equality no one person or race is better or superior to another. Wicca offers the world a better way of interacting with both nature and humanity for the good of all. Wicca offers unity and equality in all things! 6. What is your community like? My community is global, we communicate considerably via the internet, it is multi-racial, multi-cultural and non-judgemental, it includes people from across the world from a variety of countries. We support each other through various internet groups as well as live physical groups and we seek to help others to be the best they can be. Because of modern communications and the various ways we are able to interact with each other, we can support those who are unfortunately isolated and don’t have groups they can belong to near them, we can help guide them on their path if they so wish or just provide communication and friendship so they no longer feel alone in their journey on their chosen path.
